Turnstone Estates - Mixed-Use Development - Essex
Date: 22 Jul 2008
Turnstone Estates topped-out last Friday (11th July 2008) at its Army & Navy retail, hotel and residential development on the outskirts of Chelmsford, Essex.
In a special ceremony held by contractor ISG Jackson at the 1.4 acre (0.57 hectare) site fronting Van Deiman's Road, the Army & Navy roundabout and the A138 Parkway, the final roof fastening was tightened, marking this significant stage in the construction of the building.
The 81-bed hotel has been pre-let to Travelodge, while restaurant chain Frankie & Benny's has signed for a 4,250 sq ft (395 sq m) outlet.
Chris Goldsmith of Turnstone Estates comments: "Now that this key stage in construction has been reached, we're looking towards completion in December this year.
"The Army & Navy site has needed redevelopment for some time now and will soon boast an excellent mixed-use scheme that will appeal to a wide range of consumers."
Phillip Allerton, director of ISG Jackson's Living division, comments: "Work is progressing well on site, with this important ceremonial milestone marking the completion of the superstructure of this architecturally-striking building."
Turnstone purchased the site in 2005 and secured planning permission after a public consultation process in December 2006.
Januarys and Wareing Associates have been retained as joint agents on the scheme. SMC Covell Matthews Architects designed the scheme.
