Date: 30 Jul 2008

Rokeby Developments has announced it has landed five prelets for phase 2b of its mixed-use Shields Road, Newcastle scheme which it has just started to build.

Designed by Newcastle-based architects, Ryder HKS this latest phase will consist of a row of six shops with Shields Road frontage and two offices of 3,700 sq ft and 2,500 sq ft. The scheme is being built by local contractor, Interserve, which is taking the larger of the two first floor offices upon completion of the scheme.

At ground-floor level, Greggs will occupy the 1,022 sq ft unit one, Norchem Pharmacy will occupy the 1,424 sq ft unit two, Marie Curie Cancer Care has taken the 938 sq ft unit five, and Thoughts Card and Gift retailer will occupy the 647 sq ft unit six.

Regeneration specialist Rokeby, began the redevelopment of Shields Road back in 2001 with the construction of a Morrisons superstore. This acted as a catalyst for further development under Phase 2a which included the construction of a KFC restaurant and a Gala Bingo hall.

Rokeby Development's, director, Adrian Goodall, said: "We currently have a total of 250,000 sq ft of retail developments on site at present and remain confident about the retail market despite prevailing market conditions. The retail sector is still interested when it comes to good quality accommodation, in the right location, at the right rental levels."

Sanderson Weatherall is advising.
