Flowcrete - General Development - Merseyside

Flowcrete has completed one of the largest screeding projects undertaken in recent years within the UK, at Taylor Woodrow's development of two hospitals on Merseyside.

The new St Helens and Whiston Hospitals are being built for St Helens and Knowsley Hospitals NHS Trust, under a £350 million design and build deal - one of the largest PFI contracts awarded in the last 10 years.

Taylor Woodrow is main contractor for the project. Creating the right levels at both developments is Flowcrete's time proven screed, Isocrete 1500, used across 100,000 square metres at the hospitals.

A pumpable, levelling cementitious compound, Isocrete 1500 creates a level surface between concrete and the floor finishes.

Paul Harris, Taylor Woodrow operations director, said: "Isocrete 1500 provides a seamless, durable and easy to clean surface which is perfect for the hospital environment.

"From a construction point of view its exceptional strength and speed of application have enabled us to keep ahead of a tight construction timetable."

The project includes the construction of a hospital housing new In Patient facilities, including Accident and Emergency, Diagnostic, theatres and 823 beds to replace the existing facility at Whiston, along with the construction of a Diagnostic Treatment Centre at St Helens.

Isocrete 1500 has been laid to the wards and corridors, on almost every floor of each of the hospitals. The application has been carried out by Flowcrete approved contractor 4m flooring uk.

Alan Dean, sales director of Flowcrete, said: "This is one of the North West's largest construction projects in recent years and represents the latest in innovative construction and design techniques.

"Both hospitals have been completed ahead of programme and work went smoothly on site for us in terms of the application of the screed and product performance."
